Carol Scarratt is founder and now Professor Emeritus of Western
Montessori Teachers’ College Society BC, (est. 1979), Western Canada’s original,
independent Montessori teacher-training, non-profit, organization.
She is an award-winning MA (LT) alumnus of Royal Roads University, Victoria.
A Montessori career-professional with certification (with distinction) at both the
Casa and Elementary levels from St. Nicholas Montessori College, UK and 35+ years
combined experience in classroom teaching, teacher-training, personal coaching,
child and adult tutoring, conference presenting, curriculum and classroom
development and school consulting.
As a frequently-requested speaker, she has presented seminars and training
courses on all aspects of Montessori theory and curriculum at conferences world-wide.

THINKING 101: The 6 Thinking Hats!
Learn to “Think about thinking” and explore how to reach informed consensus in your classroom, staff-room and family-room! In this fun, audience-participation learning session we’ll explore and apply the landmark work of Edward de Bono (1985) and align this contemporary theory with the Montessori goal of encouraging each child to proactively “find their voice” (Covey, 2004).
WORKSHOP TWO: SATURDAY 3:40 PM
BEYOND THE GEOMETRIC CABINET:
WORKING WITH THE GEOMETRY STICKS
You’re promised a fun group participation session with the Geometry Sticks! We’ll begin with a quick review of the drawers in the geometric cabinet and use our measuring angles for a scavenger hunt with the cards.
After visiting the Triangle and Quadrilateral families, we’ll proceed to analyze and construct plane figures using this wonderfully creative material, with huge potential for learners of all ages and skill levels!” Easily adaptable to all classrooms this workshop is a stressless introduction or valuable review of this area.
WORKSHOP THREE: SUNDAY 10:00 AM
SYMBOLIC PARSING WITH THE MONTESSORI
This workshop will feature all 8 parts of speech, their definitions and function. In an inter-active session, participants will work with proven manipulatives to ensure their success with a subject that may have previously held them captive!
Participants will learn of Dr Montessori’s ingenious connection of cosmology behind the symbols used to parse written language materials and will enjoy the hands-on opportunities to review and discern their functions by using a few basic questions. You can learn to enjoy grammar – the Montessori way!
